The Paddling Center at Shingle Creek

2 Hour Cypress Forest Eco Tour

If you want to take your kids kayaking, a guided eco-tour might be fun for your family! Our 2 hour out and back tour was an excellent way to explore the natural side of Florida. Two certified guides lead us down Shingle Creek, the Everglades' headwaters, into a beautiful Cypress Forest. This unique landscape hosts local wildlife such as turtles, various wading birds, birds of prey, and alligators.

Our session began with getting fitted for a life vest and a brief lesson on how to kayak. After everyone felt comfortable paddling in the water, our journey began. The first part of the trip was with the flow, and paddling felt easy. The way back provided a little more challenge, but the exercise was enjoyable. Along the way, guides shared their knowledge of flora and fauna. My boys were particularly interested in learning about invasive species and stalagmite. Their questions were welcomed and encouraged.
